Doctors at Max Hospital, Dehradun, Mark World Liver Day, Raises Awareness and Urge Early Screening and Lifestyle Changes

Dehradun: On the occasion of World Liver Day, observed globally on April 19 to raise awareness about liver health, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, organised an awareness initiative to highlight the importance of liver care and the need for early detection of liver diseases. Liver disorders, including fatty liver disease, hepatitis, and cirrhosis, are emerging as significant health concerns, largely driven by unhealthy dietary habits, increasing alcohol consumption, obesity, and sedentary lifestyles.

The liver performs several vital functions in the body, including detoxifying harmful substances, aiding digestion, regulating metabolism, and storing essential nutrients. However, liver diseases often progress silently, and many individuals remain unaware of the condition until it reaches an advanced stage.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mayank Nautiyal, Senior Consultant – Surgical Gastroenterology & Liver Transplant, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, said, “Liver diseases are often referred to as clinically silent diseases because patients may not experience noticeable symptoms in the early stages. By the time symptoms appear, significant liver damage has already occurred. Regular health check-ups and timely screening are essential for early diagnosis and effective management. Simple lifestyle modifications can play a key role in maintaining liver health. Individuals should focus on a balanced diet, maintain a healthy weight, control diabetes, stay physically active, avoid alcohol consumption, and self-medication, as excessive or inappropriate use of drugs can adversely affect liver function.”

Dr.Nautiyal further highlighted the importance of routine liver function tests, which can help detect liver abnormalities at an early stage and prevent progression to severe complications. Individuals should consult healthcare professionals if they experience symptoms such as persistent fatigue, abdominal discomfort, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), nausea, loss of appetite, or unexplained weight loss, as these may indicate underlying liver issues.

On the occasion of World Liver Day, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, urges individuals to prioritise liver health through regular screenings, timely medical consultations, and the adoption of healthier lifestyle practices. Increased awareness, early diagnosis, and preventive care can play a crucial role in reducing the growing burden of liver diseases and improving overall health outcomes. The hospital remains committed to promoting community awareness and providing advanced medical care to help individuals lead healthier lives.
