Police Crack Case Within Just 05 Hours; Stolen Cash Amounting to More Than ₹1.60 Lakh Recovered
Uttarkashi SP Awards Police Team ₹2,500; Mahant of Vishwanath Temple Honours Team with ₹11,000 Cash Reward
Uttarkashi: Kotwali Uttarkashi Police have successfully solved, within just five hours, the case of theft of cash from the donation box located in the Nandi Griha of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Uttarkashi, after its lock was broken. The accused, Shubham Nautiyal, aged 28 years, son of Laxmi Prasad Nautiyal, resident of Gyansu, District Uttarkashi, has been arrested. The police team recovered ₹1,60,295 in cash, 1,130 coins and 680 Nepali currency notes from the possession of the accused.
In a written complaint submitted at Kotwali Uttarkashi, the Mahant of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple reported that, during the previous night, an unidentified person had broken the lock of the donation box located in the Nandi Griha of the Vishwanath Temple and stolen the money kept inside it. On the basis of the complaint, a case was registered at Kotwali Uttarkashi against an unknown accused under Sections 305(A) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Considering the sensitive nature of the incident, SP, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay, issued necessary directions to police officers for the prompt detection of the theft and early arrest of the accused. A joint team of Kotwali Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) was constituted immediately for the successful detection of the case. 
Under the close supervision of DSP, Uttarkashi, Janak Singh Panwar, and under the leadership of Inspector-in-Charge, Kotwali, Dinesh Kumar, the joint team of Kotwali Uttarkashi Police and SOG, comprising Senior Sub-Inspector Dilmohan Bisht, Sub-Inspector Vinod Panwar, Head Constable Govind Gusain, Head Constable Ranjit Kumar, Constable Deepak Chauhan, Constable Sunil Maithani, Constable Gajendra, Constable Neeraj Rawat (SOG), Constable Kashish Bhatt (SOG), and Woman Constable Lakshmi, took swift action. The team thoroughly examined CCTV footage from cameras installed in the Uttarkashi market area, the temple premises and surrounding locations. Making effective use of smart and manual policing techniques, the police conducted intensive intelligence gathering, investigation and other necessary police action.
As a result of the prompt and proactive efforts of the police, the case was successfully solved within just five hours, and the accused, Shubham Nautiyal, was arrested near Sald Band, Gyansu.
The police recovered ₹1,60,295 in cash, 1,130 coins and 680 Nepali currency notes, which had been stolen from the donation box, from the accused’s possession. Intensive interrogation of the accused is underway, and further legal proceedings in the matter are in progress.
Appreciating the excellent work of the police team in promptly solving the case and arresting the accused, Superintendent of Police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay, awarded the team a cash reward of ₹2,500 as an encouragement for their commendable performance. Meanwhile, Mahant of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Shri Ajay Puri Ji, also appreciated the swift and effective action taken by the police and honoured the police team with a cash reward of ₹11,000.
