Shimla: Uttarakhand’s Minister for Tourism, Public Works Department (PWD), Irrigation, Rural Engineering Service, Panchayati Raj and Culture, Satpal Maharaj, arrived at the Lok Bhavan in Shimla to pay a courtesy visit to Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta. During the meeting, the minister discussed various bilateral issues, including the proposed Kishau Dam Project.
The cabinet minister held extensive discussions with Governor a regarding the Kishau Multipurpose Dam Project, which is proposed on the Tons River—a major tributary of the Yamuna River. Providing details on the project’s utility, Maharaj stated that the Kishau Dam Project will hold 1,324 million cubic meters of water, which will facilitate the irrigation of 97,076 hectares of land. Additionally, it will provide 617 million cubic meters of drinking water and generate 660 MW of hydroelectric power. He said that the project will submerge approximately 1,452 hectares of land in Uttarakhand and about 1,498 hectares in Himachal Pradesh.
Maharaj further emphasized that the construction of the Kishau Dam will grant Uttarakhand its designated share of the electricity generated, helping meet the state’s growing energy requirements. Furthermore, it will secure additional water resources for irrigation across the state’s agricultural sectors, particularly benefiting Dehradun and its peripheral areas.
