Velodrome event to be held in Rudrapur: U’khand scripts history

Derhadun: Uttarakhand has become the first state in India to take a historic initiative to hold all 34 national sports games and 2 demo games within the state of Uttarakhand. The Velodrome event, which was traditionally held in Delhi, will be held at the Manoj Sarkar Sports Stadium in Rudrapur this time. The announcement was made by Hon’ble Sports Minister Rekha Arya during the National Youth Day event organised at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium.

Rekha Arya said on the occasion, “It is a proud moment for Uttarakhand that we are organising all the National Games in our state. This is a testament to our strong structure and sports management ability. Bringing a sporting event like Velodrome to Rudrapur is historic for Uttarakhand.”

She added on, Uttarakhand, which is celebrating its silver jubilee this year, is setting new milestones in the field of sports as a young state.

The Velodrome at Manoj Sarkar Sports Stadium, Rudrapur has been constructed at a cost of ₹23.12 crore. The project took 18 months to complete. On 13 December 2024, Rekha Arya inaugurated this Velodrome equipped with modern facilities.

Organizing the National Games will not only strengthen the sports structure of the state but will also lead to new opportunities in Uttarakhand, tourism and economic development.
