“UCC-Uttarakhand Leads the Way” event held to launch 27 development projects for Nainital district.

Lalkuan: Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is a law aimed at ending inequality in society. The people of Uttarakhand felt the need for it and hence it was implemented by the government, Dhami said.. He said this while releasing a special publication on the the UCC ‘Uniform Civil Code-Uttarakhand Leads the Way‘ brought out by The Pioneer during an event held to launch 27 development projects for Nainital district here on Saturday.

The CM said that the UCC is not against any particular religion or community. All will have equal rights under the UCC which will also provide them with the security which was lacking for some segments in the past. The code implemented in Uttarakhand will bring a new type of awareness in the nation, he added.

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched 27 development schemes worth Rs 126 crore for Nainital district at a programme organised in Nainital on Saturday. The projects include works in the spheres of education, roads, medical health, irrigation, sewerage, urban development, beautification and the protection of stray cattle. The works launched by the CM include nine projects worth Rs 25.93 crore which were inaugurated and 18 projects worth Rs 100.76 crore for which the foundation stones were laid by the CM.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Dhami said that these projects will further strengthen the infrastructural facilities in the region and enhance public convenience. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is making considerable progress in the spheres of defence, science, sports and infrastructure, among other fields. He cited the examples of Operation Sindoor and the Chenab rail bridge in Jammu and Kashmir as signs of the nation’s changing power and resolve.

The CM further said that various measures are being implemented to make Nainital an ideal district. These include the establishment of a mental health hospital, cancer institution, AYUSH hospital, open gymnasiums, Ambedkar park, ring road, bypass road, astro park, pollinator park and sports university. Waste management and sewerage management projects have also been started in order to make Haldwani a clean and green city while construction of multi-storeyed parking has also been started to address the problem of traffic congestion. The CM further said that construction of the Jamrani multipurpose dam project and the industrial smarty city at Khurpia will ensure long-term benefit for the Terai region in Kumaon.

MP Ajay Bhatt, MLAs Banshidhar Bhagat, Mohan Singh Bisht, Ram Singh Kaida, Haldwani mayor Gajraj Bisht and other leaders were also among those present on the occasion.
