Dehradun: The state government has given approval for the operation of the medical college in Tehri . The Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) was prepared to build a medical college in Bhagirathipuram, Tehri, but there were uncertainties regarding its operation. With the government’s approval to take over the responsibility for its operation, the path for the construction of the medical college is now clear.
The government has approved the operation of the medical college. THDC has been instructed to build the college according to the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) guidelines and other necessary instructions have also been given to the officials.
On the initiative of Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyay, Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat called a meeting at his camp office where Health officials, along with THDC officials, were present at the meeting. After a detailed discussion, it was decided that THDC would construct the college, and the state government would manage its operation. The construction of the medical college and hospital by THDC has made the government’s task much easier.
A hundred acres of land have been identified for the medical college. A request has been made to the government to complete the necessary procedures, including the NOC, as soon as possible so that the construction can begin.
Speaking to media in Dehradun, MLA Kishore Upadhyay said that the establishment of the medical college in Tehri will provide advanced healthcare services to the people of the hill region. Additionally, there are plans to upgrade the district hospital and the nursing college.
Moreover, postgraduate classes will soon begin at the Hydro Engineering College, and efforts are underway to develop it as a hill campus of IIT.
In terms of tourism, Koti Lake and the Dobra-Chanti Bridge, along with New Tehri, will be developed under a Rs 1,200 crore lake project from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which includes a ropeway from Bauradi to New Tehri. Work will also be done to strengthen the ring road and basic tourism infrastructure.
He furthersaid that a proposal has been submitted to the Railway Minister to create a junction at Maroda to connect the Char Dham Railway Project with Tehri, and work is underway on this. Additionally, the central government is expected to soon approve the construction of a tunnel from Dehradun to Tehri.
