Tehri Lake to Become a World-Class Tourism Hub: Chief Secretary, Anand Bardhan

Dehradun: A high-level committee meeting was held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan regarding the Tehri Lake Area Development Project, which is being prepared with the support of the Asian Development Bank. The Chief Secretary stated that Tehri Lake will be developed as a world-class tourism hub. For this, the Tourism Secretary has been asked to submit a detailed action plan.

The chief secretary, Anand Bardhan directed the secretary of Tourism to prepare a detailed action plan aimed at transforming Tehri Lake and its surrounding areas into a world-class tourist hub. This plan would be presented at the next meeting. He gave this direction during a meeting of the high-powered committee overseeing the Asian Development Bank-assisted Tehri Lake Area Development Project. The project director at the meeting presented a compliance report based on the instructions from the fourth HPC meeting along with a status update on the 19 sub-projects currently in progress.

He also emphasised that all the officers should conduct thorough ground surveys before preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for the future projects. “This approach is intended to ensure that all aspects of a project are considered and it will help avoid any potential cost spike later,” he said. He also advised avoiding consultancy services for smaller projects, except for significant undertakings.

During the meeting, a status report on 19 subsidiary projects prepared for the development of Tehri Lake was also presented. The Chief Secretary reviewed key projects under the Tehri Lake Area Development, including the Tourism Ring Road, Dobara-Chanti Park Development, and the upgradation of Tiwad village.
