High-Level Meeting on NEP Implementation Led by Education Minister
Dehradun : A comprehensive strategy will soon be developed for the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the state, aiming to make higher education institutions autonomous by 2030. To achieve this, a national-level workshop will be organized in the state. Additionally, every student in higher education institutions will be provided with an Ayushman Card and ABHA ID.
In a meeting chaired by Higher Education Minister, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat at Doon University, many importan decisions regarding the implementation of NEP were made. Addressing the vice-chancellors of state universities, departmental officials, and heads of private universities, Dr. Rawat emphasized the need for serious and positive efforts for NEP implementation. He stated that university vice-chancellors and college principals play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the policy.
Dr. Rawat highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions and the sharing of resources, including faculty and infrastructure, to benefit society at large. Agreements with reputed institutions will be established for resource and faculty sharing, with teachers from state colleges and universities being sent to these institutions for training.
The minister further noted the state’s continuous efforts to enhance the quality of higher education. Recently, teachers were sent for training at Infosys, yielding positive results. Steps will also be taken to enable the mutual utilization of educational resources and infrastructure under formal agreements.
Efforts are underway to promote NAAC accreditation to move towards institutional autonomy as outlined in NEP. The state government’s initiatives in this regard were appreciated in a recent NEP workshop conducted by the Government of India. Dr. Rawat affirmed the goal of granting autonomy to as many institutions as possible, with a focus on developing other institutions based on the Hub-and-Spoke model to ensure access to quality education for all.
The minister also announced that hybrid learning models would be encouraged, with 40% of the curriculum mandated to be taught online. He directed officials to connect alumni with their respective institutions via a dedicated portal and instructed the issuance of Ayushman Cards and ABHA IDs to all students.
A key decision was made to organize the National Summit for Institutional Leaders (NSIL)-2025**, which will bring together vice-chancellors from universities across the country. This summit aims to usher in transformative changes in the state’s higher education sector and elevate it to new heights.
