The Urban Development Directorate Will Submit Its Report to the Government Today After Resolving Objections.
Dehradun: Preparations for municipal elections in the state have gained momentum. The Directorate of Urban Development continued addressing objections late into the night. On Sunday, the directorate will submit its report to the government, based on which the final notification could be issued on Monday. After completing the process, the election notification is expected to be issued later this week.
The Urban Development Department had issued a provisional notification for mayor and chairman posts in municipal bodies on December 14. Following hearings on objections, the goal is to have the Election Commission issue the notification by December 25 or 26.
The directorate plans to finalize and submit its report on objections from 100 municipal bodies by Sunday itself, ensuring that the final notification can be issued by Monday or Tuesday. Preparations are progressing accordingly.
So Many Objections That Officials Are Struggling to Resolve Them.
Officials of the Urban Development Department have been taken aback by the sheer number of objections regarding mayor and chairman posts ahead of the municipal elections. The resolution of these objections continued late into the night, leaving officials busy.
In the 2018 municipal elections, the Urban Development Directorate received only 65 objections. This time, however, the number has surged to nearly 1,000. The resolution process began on Saturday, but the volume of objections has made it a daunting task for the officials, leaving them gasping for breath due to the sheer workload.
Officials worked tirelessly into the night to address the objections. Once the resolution report is submitted to the government, the final notification will be issued.
Interestingly, in several municipal bodies, the objections are numerous but identical in nature. After review, it appears that a single person may have drafted the objection and had it submitted by different individuals.
In compliance with the High Court’s orders, the Urban Development Department will issue a separate notification for the Kichha municipality within a week. Objections will be invited for this notification, and the election process in Kichha will proceed accordingly. It is expected that municipal elections in Kichha will be held about a week later than those in other municipalities.
A provisional notification regarding ward reservations in municipal bodies was issued at the district magistrate level. The resolution of objections related to these reservations is expected to be completed by tomorrow. Subsequently, all district magistrates will submit their reports to the government, based on which the final notification will be issued.
