Dehradun: Preparations have intensified for the resumption of helicopter services during the second phase of the Char Dham Yatra, which is set to begin in Uttarakhand from September 15. A committee headed by Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli has submitted its report to establish a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for operating helicopter services in Uttarakhand.
The report recommends reducing the number of passengers using helicopter services by up to 30% and increasing the fare. Based on this report, a stricter SOP will soon be issued. The high-level committee also analyzed the causes of recent helicopter accidents and has prepared recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.
The report includes suggestions for improvements in human resources, equipment, and administrative reforms within the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA). It also recommends amendments to previously drafted SOPs, strengthening communication systems for weather-related information, and enhancing the overall air traffic management system in the state. Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli confirmed the submission of the report.
He stated that several points have been suggested in the report, including improvements to helipads, air traffic control (ATC), helicopters, pilots, and weather systems under the Char Dham helicopter service. The final decision on the report will be made by the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), after which the new SOP will be issued. UCADA CEO Ashish Chauhan mentioned that the report is currently under review and a final decision will be taken soon.
