Hailing from Haldwani, Neeraj Joshi comes from a humble background. His father, Rajesh Ballabh Joshi, is a farmer who supports his family through agriculture. Despite limited resources, Neeraj dreamt of making a career in Wushu and has been training in Dehradun for the past eight years. However, financial difficulties and injuries often put his sports career in jeopardy.
In 2022, Neeraj suffered a severe leg fracture, which left him disheartened. The thought of quitting the sport crossed his mind, but the unwavering support of his family and coach helped him make a strong comeback. In 2023, he proved his potential by winning a gold medal at the All India University Games. However, his performance at the 2023 National Games in Goa was hindered due to inadequate sports facilities, and he could only secure the fifth position, leaving him disappointed.
Government Initiatives Gave Wings to Neeraj’s Dreams
Neeraj Joshi acknowledges that the sports schemes and incentives announced by the Uttarakhand government have given him a new sense of motivation. The government’s initiatives, including cash rewards and government job provisions for national-level medal winners, have significantly boosted the morale of athletes.
