Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, Spreads Awareness on Chronic Kidney Disease on World Kidney Day

Dehradun: On World Kidney Day, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about chronic kidney disease (CKD), focusing on its symptoms, prevention, and treatment. This initiative is part of the hospital’s ongoing commitment to improving public health and combating the growing kidney problems.

Dr. Manish Sharma, Consultant, Nephrology, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, highlighted the symptoms of CKD, stating, “chronic kidney disease develops gradually and often remains undetected in its early stages. Common symptoms include swelling in the body, foamy urine, decreased urine output, blood in the urine, persistent weakness, high blood pressure (especially in young patients), and frequent urination. As kidney function deteriorates, metabolic waste accumulates in the bloodstream, leading to fatigue, reduced mental alertness, and loss of appetite.  Patients may also experience shortness of breath with advancing CKD. In advanced cases, CKD can cause easy bruising, prolonged bleeding, and a weakened immune system, making individuals more vulnerable to infections.”

Dr. Sharma further explained that individuals with diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, or a family history of kidney disease are at a higher risk of developing CKD. To reduce this risk, he emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups to monitor kidney function, adopting a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise, avoiding excessive use of painkillers and self-medication, staying properly hydrated, and limiting salt intake. He also highlighted that early diagnosis plays a crucial role in managing CKD, with treatment options depending on the severity of the disease, including medications, dialysis, or kidney transplantation.
