Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun Raises Awareness on World Brain Tumor Day.

Saharanpur: On this World Brain Tumor Day, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, organised a special awareness program aimed at educating people about the seriousness of brain tumors, their symptoms, causes, and the importance of timely treatment.

Dr. Anand Mohan Thakur, Associate Director, Neurosurgery, Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun, said, “Brain tumor is a serious condition in which abnormal cells develop in the brain. These cells interfere with the brain’s normal functioning. Brain tumors can form inside the brain or in nearby structures such as the pituitary gland (which regulates several bodily functions), pineal gland, membranes covering the brain, or even the skull bones.”

Dr. Thakur further explained, “Not all tumors are cancerous. Some brain tumors are non-cancerous. In many cases, early symptoms of brain tumor appears quite general, such as frequent headaches, nausea or vomiting, blurred vision, persistent fatigue, memory issues, weakness or numbness in any part of the body. As the tumor grows, these symptoms tend to worsen. Brain tumors can affect individuals of any age. However, non-cancerous tumor is more commonly seen in people aged between 20 to 40 years, while the risk of malignant (Cancerous) tumor increases significantly in those above 50 years of age.”

Speaking about treatment options, Dr. Thakur said, “Surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy are primarily used to treat brain tumor. In some cases, surgery is performed for the removal of the tumor to relieve pressure on surrounding structures and to obtain a biopsy for diagnosis and prognosis.”
