The aim of the initiative was to spread awareness in society and highlight the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment.
Explaining the symptoms of Kidney Cancer, Dr. Tariq Naseem, Principal Consultant, Urology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, said,” Symptoms often develop gradually and may not be clearly noticeable in the early stages. Symptoms like the presence of blood in the urine, which typically occurs without pain, persistent pain on one side of the lower back or flank, the presence of a lump or swelling in the abdomen or lower back, unexplained weight loss, constant fatigue, loss of appetite, and sometimes low-grade fever. As a result, people tend to ignore them, assuming they have minor health issues, which can later turn out to be serious symptoms that should never be ignored.”
Dr. Tariq further stated, “With the advancement of technology, procedures such as robotic surgery have made treatment more effective and less risky than before. Earlier, such cases often required complete removal of the kidney (nephrectomy), but with current high-end techniques, tumors can be removed while preserving the kidney. This not only makes the procedure less complex but also results in faster recovery, minimal blood loss, and improved quality of life for the patient.”
