Dehradun: Doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, successfully removed a Complex renal tumor from the right kidney of a 51-year-old patient, Manohar Sisodiya from Dehradun. The surgery was performed was Robotic-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN), a minimally invasive procedure.
The surgery was successfully led by Dr Deepak Garg, Senior Urologist, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, along with his multidisciplinary team of doctors.
Mr. Manohar Sisodiya, while visiting Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, had been suffering from a tumour in his right kidney. He had undergone tests at another hospital and was advised to undergo completely kidney removal. However, upon evaluation at Max Hospital, it was revealed that his left kidney was already severely damaged, functioning at only 20-22% capacity. Removing the right kidney would have left him dependent on dialysis for life, along with potential serious health complications.
After careful consideration, Dr Garg and his team decided to remove only the tumour using cutting-edge robotic technology. This complex surgery, which would not have been possible with traditional open or laparoscopic methods, offered a way to preserve kidney function.
Understanding the complexity of the case, the patient opted for the surgical procedure.
Elaborating on the case, Dr Deepak Garg, Senior Urologist Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, said, “Renal Cell Carcinoma is responsible for approximately 90% of all kidney cancers. It develops from the lining of the small tubules in the kidneys that filter blood and produce urine. In Past complex renal tumors like in this patient end up in doing Nephrectomy (completely removing entire kidney)”.
Speaking about Mr. Sisodiya’s case, his left kidney was very poorly functioning and removing his right (kidney with tumor) completely would have left him dependent on dialysis. Given the critical nature of the case, the patient opted for Robotic-Assisted Partial Nephrectomy (RAPN), a minimally invasive surgical procedure to treat kidney cancer. As a result of this complex surgery, the patient was discharged within five days and on follow up is doing well.”
Highlighting the importance of the surgery, Dr Garg further added, “In the past, larger tumours often required the removal of the entire kidney. However, with the advancement of robotic technology, such intricate procedures can now be carried out with precision, preserving kidney function whenever possible.”
Dr Sandeep Singh Tanwar, Senior Vice President of Operations and Unit Head, emphasized, “Max Hospital is dedicated to offering world-class treatment using the latest technology. We are able to perform complex surgeries right here in Dehradun—procedures that previously required patients to travel to major cities like Delhi.
With the Da Vinci X Surgical Robot, one of the most advanced systems in India, our surgeons can perform minimally invasive surgeries, ensuring smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery for our patients.”
Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, is committed to providing state-of-the-art healthcare and offering life-saving treatments without the need to leave the region.
