Dehradun, October 29, 2025: On the occasion of World Stroke Day, observed annually on October 29, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, raised awareness and emphasised on the critical importance of prevention, and timely intervention in combating stroke — one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability worldwide. This year’s theme, “Power of Prevention: Protect Your Brain,” highlights how small, consistent lifestyle changes can significantly lower stroke risk.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Shamsher Dwivedee, Director – Neurology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, said, “Stroke is a medical emergency that can strike anyone, anytime and occurs when the blood flow to the brain is interrupted, depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die, leading to potential paralysis, speech difficulties, and memory issues. “Prevention and early recognition are the most powerful tools against stroke. By learning to spot the warning signs — Balance loss, Eye changes, Face drooping, Arm weakness, Slurred speech, and Time to act — we can BE FAST. Quick action and immediate medical care can save not only a life but also vital brain function.”
Adding to this, Dr. Nitin Garg, Senior Consultant – Neurology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, emphasised, “Lifestyle modification remains the strongest defense against stroke. Maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, and keeping conditions like high blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes under control can significantly reduce risk. Nearly 90% of strokes can be prevented through healthy habits and control of risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, obesity, and inactivity. Awareness and proactive health check-ups are the first steps toward prevention.”
Max Hospital, Dehradun, continues to drive community awareness encouraging people to recognize early symptoms and adopt healthier routines. With timely medical care, rehabilitation, and family support, stroke survivors can regain independence and lead fulfilling lives.
