Max Hospital, Dehradun Raises Awareness on Kidney Health.

Dehradun: On the occasion of World Kidney Day, observed globally on the second Thursday of March, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun organised an awareness initiative to highlight the importance of kidney health and the need for early detection of kidney diseases. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is emerging as a significant health concern, largely driven by the increasing prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, unhealthy dietary habits, and sedentary lifestyles.

Kidneys perform several vital functions in the body, including filtering waste and toxins from the blood, regulating blood pressure, maintaining fluid balance, and supporting the production of red blood cells. However, kidney diseases often progress silently, and many patients remain unaware of the condition until it reaches an advanced stage.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Manish Sharma, Consultant – Nephrology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, said, “Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is often referred to as a silent disease because patients may not experience noticeable symptoms in the early stages. By the time symptoms appear, significant damage may already have occurred. Regular health check-ups and timely screening, particularly for individuals with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of kidney disease, are crucial for early detection and effective management.”

Dr. Sharma, further emphasized that “Simple lifestyle modifications can play a key role in protecting kidney health. Individuals should maintain adequate hydration, follow a balanced diet with reduced salt intake, manage blood sugar and blood pressure levels, exercise regularly, and avoid the unnecessary use of over-the-counter pain medications that can harm kidney function if taken excessively.

Dr. Sharma, also highlighted the importance of routine kidney function tests such as serum creatinine and urine analysis, which can help identify kidney problems at an early stage and prevent progression to severe complications requiring dialysis or transplantation. People should consult healthcare professionals if they experience symptoms such as swelling in the legs or face, persistent fatigue, changes in urine output, or unexplained loss of appetite, as these may indicate underlying kidney issues.

On the occasion of World Kidney Day, Max Hospital, Dehradun, urges individuals to prioritise kidney health through regular screenings, timely medical consultations, and the adoption of healthier lifestyle practices. Increased awareness, early diagnosis, and preventive care can play a crucial role in reducing the growing burden of kidney diseases and improving long-term health outcomes. The hospital remains committed to promoting community awareness and providing advanced medical care to help individuals lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.
