CM Pushkar Dhami Issues Strict Directives Regarding Safety Standards of Heli Services.

Dehradun: Chief Minister Dhami has issued a stern message to all heli service providers and operators operating in Uttarakhand, stating clearly that there must be no compromise on safety standards of helicopter services. CM Dhami emphasized that passenger safety should be the top priority, without being complacent due to the growing number of heli service users.

He also directed that past helicopter accidents be audited and regularly reviewed to ensure such incidents are not repeated. The Chief Minister stated that, as the nodal authority of the state, ensuring the safety of passengers is a paramount responsibility.

CM Pushkar Singh Dhami gave strict instructions to:

  • Ensure regular fitness checks of helicopters are followed rigorously.
    Develop a strong and effective SOP for helicopter ticket booking.
    Enforce strict compliance with engine safety standards for helicopters flying in high Himalayan regions.

The Chief Minister was reviewing the state’s heli services at his residence with all helicopter service providers and operators operating in Uttarakhand, as well as officials from UCADA, AAIB, and DGCA.

Due to weather-related disruptions and the need for accurate weather updates and safety, CM Dhami directed installation of weather cameras in Kedarnath Valley and other Char Dham valleys. He also instructed UCADA to formulate a policy allowing only twin-engine helicopters in the future.

He further directed UCADA and other stakeholders to study the helicopter service model of Vaishno Devi. CM Dhami emphasized that only highly experienced pilots should be employed for heli services in the state. Additionally, he instructed heli operators to treat passengers with sensitivity and courtesy, so that tourists from across the globe leave Devbhoomi with a pleasant experience.

He also directed heli operators and the administration to launch cleanliness campaigns along Char Dham routes.

The Chief Minister highlighted that, given the increasing demand for heli services, many helipads are currently under construction in the state. So far this year, over 66,000 passengers have availed of heli shuttle services.

In today’s meeting, CM Dhami also directed UCADA to prepare a 10-year action plan for heli services in the state. He said that as a state of tourism and pilgrimage (Char Dham), the demand for helicopter services will continue to rise. Given the challenging geographical terrain, heli services will become a lifeline for the state in the future.

Chief Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu, R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Sachin Kurve, Additional Secretary Sonika, and all heli and charter service operators working in the state were also present in the meeting.
