New Delhi: Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai took oath as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on Wednesday. The oath-taking ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath.
After being sworn in, Chief Justice Gavai went straight to the Supreme Court and paid floral tribute to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Justice Gavai will have a six-month tenure as Chief Justice and is scheduled to retire on November 23 this year. Justice Khanna retired from the post of CJI on May 13. Justice Gavai took the oath in Hindi. This is the first time a Chief Justice has taken the oath in Hindi.
