Haridwar: On the eve of World Stroke Day, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, emphasizes the critical importance of immediate medical care for stroke patients. Dr. Shamsher Dwivedee, Director, Neurology (MIND) and Dr. Nitin Garg, Senior Consultant, Neurology (MIND) shared a life-saving impact of rapid intervention in stroke management and discussed a recent case that underscores the hospital’s expertise in advanced neurological care.

 

One such case involves a 39-year-old male patient who faced onset of left-sided weakness, facial deviation, and inability to speak suffered with stroke and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Dr. Shamsher Dwivedee, Director of Neurology (MIND), said: “The patient’s symptoms began 30 minutes before he arrived at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Dehradun—a critical window in stroke care. Immediate admission was taken under the care of the neurology team for further evaluation and management. A comprehensive stroke work-up was conducted, which included CT and MRI brain scans, and an angiogram of the brain and neck. The patient had experienced a similar incident 15 days prior that had resolved on its own. The recurrence of symptoms demanded urgent attention, and early intervention enabled us to manage the condition before it could escalate.”

“A diagnosis revealed mild plaque build-up in the carotid arteries, though no significant blockages were found, with a few chronic ischemic spots noted in the brain. Additional tests, including a 2D echocardiogram and Holter monitoring, showed normal heart function and rhythm. The patient is currently undergoing physiotherapy sessions as part of the recovery process.” He added.

 

Dr. Nitin Garg, Senior Consultant – Neurology, (MIND) spoke about the significance of timely care: “Stroke management requires not only precise diagnosis but also rapid and coordinated treatment. In this case, the patient’s symptoms escalated quickly, but our team’s prompt response helped avoid long-term complications. Over the course of treatment, the patient remained stable both neurologically and hemodynamically. After several days of monitoring and therapy, he showed significant improvement and was discharged in a stable condition.
