Governor Participates in National Conference and Policy Dialogue on TB Held at AIIMS Rishikesh.

Rishikesh: Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.) participated in the National Conference and Policy Dialogue program on TB held at AIIMS Rishikesh. On this occasion, he said that the eradication of tuberculosis (TB) is not limited to medicine and treatment alone, but requires timely screening, proper care, nutrition, public awareness, and active participation from society. Effective use of modern technology and scientific research in the fight against TB must ensure that every patient receives the right treatment on time.

The Governor emphasized that TB is not only a medical issue but also a social and economic challenge. Its impact extends beyond the patient’s health to their family, livelihood, and social life. Therefore, adopting a sensitive and collaborative approach toward individuals suffering from TB is essential.

Praising initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi—such as the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana, Ni-kshay Mitra initiative, and TB Mukt Panchayat—he noted that public participation is the greatest strength in realizing the resolve of a TB-free India.

In a Himalayan state like Uttarakhand, rugged geographical conditions, long distances, and weather-related challenges affect access to healthcare services. In such scenarios, modern technology can play a key role in overcoming these obstacles. Commending AIIMS Rishikesh’s use of drone technology to deliver TB medicines to remote areas as an inspiring initiative, he stated that coordinating medical science, technology, and administrative willpower can significantly improve healthcare reach in distant regions.

He added that the success of healthcare services should not be measured merely by the number of tests conducted or machines available, but by how quickly a patient is correctly identified and how promptly their treatment begins. The real benefit of scientific research and technology lies in making people’s lives safer and better.

Highlighting the vital role of ASHA and other health workers, Ni-kshay Mitras, and TB Champions in eliminating the disease, the Governor described them as a strong bridge between society and the healthcare system. Calling for an end to the social stigma and misconceptions associated with TB, he stressed that individuals suffering from TB need respect, trust, and support—not isolation or discrimination.
