Dehradun: On the occasion of World TB Day, doctors at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, highlighted the critical importance of early diagnosis, timely treatment, and sustained awareness in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB).
Tuberculosis continues to be one of the most significant infectious diseases globally and remains a major public health concern in India. Medical experts noted that while TB is both preventable and curable, delayed diagnosis and incomplete treatment often lead to serious complications and increase the risk of transmission.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vivek Kumar Verma, Principal Consultant – Pulmonology, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, said, “Tuberculosis continues to affect a large number of people, but the encouraging aspect is that it is completely curable if detected early and treated appropriately. However, many individuals tend to ignore early warning signs such as persistent cough, fever, unexplained weight loss, and night sweats, which delay timely diagnosis and care.”
Dr. Vivek, further added, “Completing the full course of TB medication is extremely important. Interrupting treatment midway can lead to drug-resistant TB, which is far more difficult to treat. Greater awareness, early screening, and prompt medical intervention are essential to controlling the spread of the disease.”
The doctor also emphasized the importance of eliminating the stigma associated with TB, which often discourages patients from seeking timely medical attention. Encouraging open conversations, regular health check-ups, and early medical consultation can play a vital role in reducing both complications and transmission.
Reaffirming its commitment on World TB Day, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Dehradun, continues to support efforts aimed at raising awareness, promoting early detection, and ensuring access to advanced treatment for patients. The hospital also urged communities to remain vigilant about symptoms and work collectively towards India’s goal of eliminating tuberculosis.
